The dialogue in my house needs to change. Is it me or does everything seems so results oriented? When I ask the kids to tell me about their day, I get netted out in test scores and basketball points. It sounds more like I asked what they accomplished rather than simply how their day went.
I think we are all just trying to do our best as parents. I may be overreaching in my effort to get the kids to shift their focus but I really want a different conversation with them. I started steering them away from achievement based discussions. At dinner, I ask them to share three things that made them feel good that day. It could be an example of something they were proud of, an expression of gratitude or even something that made them happy that day.
I’m not going to lie, it wasn’t easy to get this party started, but once we did, it was pretty amazing. I loved their answers and learned so much more about the inner workings of their day.
Dinner is such a great time to talk to your kids. They’re relaxed, happy to be with family, and ready to have a good meal. Enjoy these recipe ideas and hopefully, some insightful conversations with your family.

Shake up your fish game with this amazing Sesame Salmon. It’s so good and the sauce takes it to another level. Promise me you won’t skip the sauce. I’ll serve this with Roasted Broccoli and Potstickers.

You guys, this is a home run. You’ve heard of a pulled pork sandwich? This is a pulled chicken sandwich and it’s off the hook. Super easy to prep but takes some inactive cooking time. Meaning, put it in the oven and do your thing: laundry, pick up the kids, or pour a glass of wine and watch bad tv.

The salad eaters in my family will go crazy for this Steak Salad. The non salad eaters in the house (cough, Jake) will have the steak with a side of potatoes and something green like Roasted Broccoli or Sesame Asparagus.
