Middle School was hard enough when I went it through it. Shepherding my son through it is harder. There are so many changes happening at this age. I feel like I’m watching a science project up close and in slow motion. My sweet little boy now towers over me and his voice has the distinctive tone of a baritone. The physical changes are just the beginning of my new life with a teenager.
His adolescent brain is processing everything in a new way. As if this wasn’t enough to manage, at the height of awkwardness, middle schoolers get the bonus of learning to navigate the sometimes unforgiving maze of the middle school social scene. It was true when I went through it and it is true watching my son go through it: It was the best of times, it was the worst of times…
One of the great gifts of this experience has been the new friendships with other moms. Last year, a group of us were thrown together to host an event for the grade. One of the mothers was kind enough to host the event and graciously welcomed over fifty 7th grade boys into her home.
While setting up for the event, she offered me a beer. I gladly accepted and she directed me to a mounted bottle opener on the wall. What!? A wall mounted bottle opener? Ever the collector of resources, I needed to know where it was from and how to order one. I imagined a life with this brilliant gadget saving me from the endless scavenger hunt for the always missing bottle opener. I loved it.
Not long after the event, my lovely new friend gifted me with my very own wall mounted bottle opener. I couldn’t believe it! It was the most thoughtful gift because she knew how much I loved it. Mine is mounted on the side of the island in my kitchen. Every time I use it I think of her and am reminded of that wonderful surprise from my new friend that meant so much to me.
Check out this great wall mounted bottle opener and cheers!
