I think everyone could use a nice, steaming hot cup of AWESOME. This week, I am sharing Neil Pasricha’s TED Talk and book because they are, well, awesome. Pastiche is an award winning blogger who writes about the little everyday things we tend to overlook but that make us happy. His Ted Talk is a great reminder of how I want to live and of the attitude I hope to instill in my children.
Pasricha assures us that, sadly, bad things will happen in life. Check out the news; bad things happen every day, and we are inundated with upsetting images.
Instead of giving in to the feeling that the sky is falling, we can choose to focus on the awesomeness in life.
There are so many things around us that lift our spirits, make us smile, and ultimately, can change how we see the world around us. These things don’t have to be huge moments like getting promoted, winning the lottery, or finding out there was a secret family trust fund. Okay, all of those things would be amazing, but we can’t put our happiness on hold for something truly life changing to happen.
Instead, focusing on the joy and choosing to be happy is a way of life. He writes about the smell of a bakery (yes!), popping bubble wrap (so satisfying), and lucking into all the green lights on your drive home. These ordinary, little things that happen to all of us every day may be small things, but, they make us feel good.
Change your focus and find the joy in your life.
His book, The Book of Awesomeness is a fun read and makes a great gift for teachers, Father’s Day, or just a friend who needs a pick me up. Find his book here.
Enjoy!
