Happy Thanksgiving! I hope you are having a memorable day with family, friends, and of course, amazing food. In the spirit of the holiday, I’m sharing a fantastic website for families, Project Giving Kids.
Last week, I had lunch with friends who were all looking forward to hosting Thanksgiving. They were excited to cook and spend some serious downtime with family. In addition, they wanted to add something special to their holiday tradition: volunteering as a family. Unfortunately, they described the frustration they felt that they didn’t know who to call or if certain organizations would welcome families as volunteers.
Project Giving Kids makes it easy for families to volunteer in their community. It’s a free service that connects kids and families to service activities according to categories of interest, ages of the kids, and available time commitment. How great is that?
Kids and families can discover opportunities to make a difference in their communities and tailor the experience to their specific passions. The platform works beautifully for a single day of community service or for longer term commitments like tutoring homeless students.
Project Giving Kids breaks it down by the following areas of interest:
Save the Planet
Aid the Elderly
Aid the Animals
Comfort the Sick
Help Fight Hunger
Begin With Basics
Help Other Kids
Support Our Troops
Project Giving Kids is currently running in Boston and Los Angeles with plans to expand to the Bay Area in 2017. If you live in a city that isn’t currently served by Project Giving Kids, check out their volunteer opportunities on their site. If an organization catches your eye, call them and see if there is a local branch in your area.
Let Project Giving Kids help connect your kids to causes they are interested in and care about. Connect to Project Giving Kids here.
Enjoy.
