Ina Garten’s new book is at the very top of my wish list this year. It is no secret that I love Ina Garten and her new book is out just in time for the holidays. This book is the most perfect gift for any home cook or would make a fantastic hostess gift.
It wasn’t long after Jake was born that I stumbled upon Ina Garten’s show, The Barefoot Contessa. It was through this show, episode by episode that I first learned to cook. Over time, I’ve collected all of her books which are well worn and splattered with years of delicious memories. I’ve heard her speak on tour and was lucky enough to meet her at a book signing at Williams Sonoma when Lily was just 6 weeks old. Can you tell I’m a huge fan?
Well before culinary school, Ina Garten taught me how to cook. She taught me to properly truss a chicken, make a perfect chicken stock, and bake beautiful cookies. Her recipes are simple enough for beginners and deliver the kind of superb quality that even discriminating foodies can’t deny. Her recipes transformed my cooking and I am not alone. As one of the most successful on camera chefs and best selling authors around, her recipes have become staples in homes across the country.
Cooking for Jeffrey is a tribute to Ms. Garten’s most faithful tester and love of her life, her husband Jeffrey. I love her dedication and obvious affection for her husband of so many decades. Garten reminds us all through Jeffrey that cooking isn’t just about food, cooking is about sharing food with those whom we love.
I’ve already made her Skillet Roast Chicken (recipe is on line) out of the book and it was a huge hit. It’s everything Ina Garten strives for in a recipe: beautiful food that is delicious and easy enough for anyone to make. The book is filled with magical recipes that will become instant classics like her Filet Mignon with Mustard and Mushrooms.
This book makes the world’s most perfect gift. It’s full of inspiring recipes and beautiful photograph. Garten’s writing is so personal it feels like she’s speaking directly to me over a cup of tea in the kitchen of her Hamptons barn.
